Finding a large, fun cat tree which matched my apartment was slightly challenging. I really wanted a lovely wooden tower which looked like human furniture. When I spotted the Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower I immediately wanted to try it out.

This is a very attractive looking cat tree and this version came in the color, Espresso. This is a lovely, dark wood color that matched the wood of my floors. I was immediately drawn to the curved shape and the modernistic look.

The Refined Feline Lotus Tower Cat Tree was advertised as having a sleek, organic design which blends symmetry, functionality and minimalism into a beautiful “flowering” tree. It blends modern design and ascetics with functionality.

Apart from looks it really needed to be very sturdy. And it needed to be suitable for a larger cat such as my ragdoll. This was advertised as being suitable for a range of large cats such as Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest Cats.

Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower Features:

The cat tree features three platforms which are covered in a berber carpet. These carpet pieces are attached to the platforms with velcro. Therefore, perfect for removing for cleaning and can be changed if they become worn.

Size wise, the middle platform is 8″ by 22″ and the top platform is a generous 20″ by 24″. The top platform also has a lovely curved design and is perfect for a cat to either stretch out on or to curl up.

The base cubby hole is 14″ by 14″ by 20″ and has a hole cut in it for entry. Inside there is a faux suede cushion and there is also a fur suede cushion on top of the cubby hole so this is an extra place for your cat to sit. Again these cushions can be removed for easy cleaning.

There is also a sisal scratch post that is on the lower wooden area before the first platform. For me, this sisal scratch post was a little too low down. Most cats love to stretch when they use a scratch post and if you have a very long cat then its better to get a longer scratch post. However, for me a cat tree’s primary purpose is to give my cat sleeping and climbing perches and I will usually buy separate cat scratchers.

The Lotus flower structure

This is a large tree – it reaches almost 6 foot in height and is about 20 inches wide and 20 inches deep. For something this high the tree does need to be sturdy and this is the case with this tree. It has a weighted bottom and comes with floor levellers and there is an optional support bar for extra stability.

A heavy cat will not be able to tip this over. Even if they jump onto the higher perches. This was a big plus as Dyson is able to tip over less sturdy cat trees.

The actual structure of the Lotus Cat Tower is made from ply with an oak veneer for added strength. It is pretty easy to clean – just wipe down the frame and the carpet pieces can be removed for hoovering or putting in the washing machine.

Putting the Tower together

Delivery weight of this cat tower is 70 pounds and self assembly is required. Luckily you do not have to see if you have the correct screwdriver as all the tools required come in the box. (good for us people who don’t know a posidrive from a philips head screwdriver – trust me I can never find the right screwdriver bit size for screws).

One thing to note is look at the instructions on how to assemble from the beginning. I gave it a go without checking properly and I am sure I started to make it upside down at first. As it was, once I had looked at the instructions (and these are just a series of pictures) it took just under an hour to put together. Not too bad for such a large item.

If you have someone to help you then putting it all together will be easier.

So Did my Cat Climb it?

The manufacturer does advise that if your cat doesn’t take to this straight away then to give it a spray with catnip. Sometimes, if you have a cat used to a carpet cat tree they might find this a little unusual. Most cats though love wood. It is a natural substance and can be cooling in the summer months.

In Dyson’s case she took to it straight away. She is used to wooden cat trees though as she has a smaller wooden cat climber. As a young cat she also loved to climb curtains (and then lie on top of the curtain pole) so I knew she also loved to be up high – and this is a lot safer for her than the top of my curtains.

She really loved being on the top platform and chattering at the birds passing the window. She was not too fond of the cubby hole at the base as she does not like being in enclosed spaces. However, she would also sit on other perches depending on her mood.

Multi Cat Households

With the size of the cat tree, I would say that this is also perfect for multi cat households. There is plenty of space on the platforms and each of the platforms was also spaced out pretty well so your cats are not almost sleeping on top of each other.

Final Conclusion:

If you are looking for a piece of cat furniture that is great for kitty and looks beautiful then the Refined Feline Lotus Cat Tower could be for you. It is a tall cat tree so make sure that your ceiling heights can accommodate it.

Overall my cat thought this was a great item. She loves climbing it and can sleep for hours on the top perch. It is very well made and very sturdy. Putting it together can be tricky but the instructions are well written.

I am really pleased with it and visitors have commented on its’ looks.
