Is World’s Best Cat Litter Really the Best?

I have been asked a number of times which cat litter do I prefer. And honestly the answer is very simple as I have now been using World’s Best Cat Litter for more than 10 years.

It actually works well in conjunction with my Litter Robot. Though before getting the Litter Robot I used a normal scoopable litter box.

Why Did I move to World’s Best Cat Litter?

World's Best Cat Litter is it really the best cat litter in the worldI changed cat litter many years ago for a number of reasons. And maybe you have noticed one or more of these yourself and wonder whether there is a better litter for you.

 1. Overly scented litter

I found that some litters were very strongly scented, probably to mask the poop smells. However, I found that some of these litters made me sneeze a lot. And if I found that they were too strong how did my cats feel with their more-sensitive noses?

I am not overly keen on pine smells which seems to be a common theme in scented litter and so did not really like most of my house smelling of pine. I know some people might think that that is better than a poop smell but a good cat litter should hide the cat smell without overpowering it with pine.

2. Pink paws

Yes I really did say pink paws. I was using a cat litter called Sophisticat at the time which came in a pink color. One day I noticed that my cat who had lovely white socks actually now had pink socks.

And if the pink color is transferred to my cat’s paws then surely that means when she grooms that the dye is also getting into her system. That was off putting as what was this really doing to my cat’s health.

3. Clumping

I prefer clumping litters as I find them easier to scoop and keep clean. This is also pretty important if you do use a self cleaning litter box such as the Litter Robot. I did try a non-clumping litter for a while but I found that there was a more pronounced urine smell in the box and that urine seemed to settle on the bottom of the litter box.

4. Sticking to Paws and Cleaning

I had two issues here. First up if the cat litter was sticking to a cat’s paws then when they groomed themselves the cat litter would be swallowed.

Secondly litters were sometimes dusty and the particles would be tracked all over my house.

So Why World’s Best?

Well it is made from 100 percent whole kernel maize (or corn) so I knew that if my cat ate it then this would not cause an issue.

I also found that it didn’t cause very much dust. What dust there was, very quickly settled back into the litter box rather than being tracked through the house.

Odor wise I found that the World’s Best Cat Litter had a very gently smell. It was also very absorbent and clumped extremely well. However, I did find that it clumped better if it was left for about 5-10 minutes once it had been used by my cat. This though, is perfectly fine for my Litter Robot as that waits around 7 minutes before cycling.

The other plus was something I did not realise for at least a year of use. And that was I was using much less litter. In fact, I only used three 28lbs bags over the course of the year. A really big difference to buying a bag nearly every month.

The manufacturer also says that the litter is flushable which is the case but not something I would advise as this places cat faeces into the sewage system. However, the litter is also compostable if you are into composting.

Different Types of World’s Best

World's Best Cat Litter, clumping formula for multi-cat householdsI usually use the original green bag of World’s Best Cat Litter. I find that this works perfectly well for a two cat household.

However there are now a couple of other versions available:

Quick Cat Clumping Formula

This has the addition of 100% natural wood fibers and is designed for multiple cat households. The addition of the wood fibers means that it clumps quicker than the original formula. This comes in a red colored bag.

Quick Cat Clumping Formula – Lavender Scented

This version has the addition of 100% all natural lavender oil. This gives the litter a gentle lavender fragrance. It comes in a purple colored bag.

Pros

  • All Natural Corn
  • Almost dust free
  • Not a strong smell
  • Good odor control
  • A bag lasts a long time

Cons

  • Price – it’s a bit more expensive than other litters

Summary

I have been very pleased with my World’s Best Cat Litter over the years. After all I probably would not have stayed with the brand for over 10 years if I had not been pleased with it’s performance. I have been happy with the standard version of the litter and this does work well for one or two cats.

If I had multiple cats then I would probably go for the quick cat clumping formula as it will help with odor control for more cats.

Whilst the price is higher for this litter I do find that a bag lasts around 4 months with two cats. Thus in the long term it works out quite reasonable in cost.
