Do you have a cat toy that has lasted years and your cat is still playing with it? If you don’t then maybe you need to try out the Petstages Cheese Chase. This is a three in one interactive toy for both cats and kittens.
I’m not kidding that this has lasted years as I bought this item for Dyson when she was a kitten. To be honest I wasn’t expecting it to last as long or be still played with over 5 years later. So I am honestly surprised – but pleasantly surprised. (Especially since Dyson loves pulling the heads off her toys)
I have noticed that the design has been slightly updated but the main premise of the toy is the same.
There is a translucent track around the outside of the toy which contains a hard ball which can be whacked around the track. The design of this part has changed slightly over the years as my version is a fully covered over track but now the manufacturer has put holes through the top tunnel so that a cat can see their ball going around the track from above (the holes here are too small to get a paw through)
Then you have the “Swiss Cheese” centre which houses yet another ball and has a hard top with three larger holes through it so your cat can bat the ball from above. My cat can get her entire leg through these holes so often tries to move the ball around – almost like trying to rush it out. This adds extra interest in the game.
Third, you then have a crinkly mouse which contains catnip on a springy rod which your cat can grab (or chew on in the case of Dyson).
This is a very simple toy to set up and just takes a few seconds to put the springy rod through the centre of the toy. Apart from the springy stick you could almost play with this straight out of the box.
Cat-ability of the Petstages Cheese Chase
Well, this was one of the first toys that Dyson chose to regularly play when she was a kitten and it is still often played with today. I do sometimes in the middle of the night hear the ball being batted about or the whack as she pulls the springy mouse down to the floor and then let’s it go.
It has stood up well to the test of time. The mouse toy remains intact (even though Dyson usually likes to pull the heads off her toys). And the plastic base is still in good condition with no chips or cracks.
From a human point of view it’s easy to keep clean – just a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. It is also one of those toys which you can allow your cat to play with when you are busy with something else (or trying to get some sleep).
This is a fun inexpensive toy that will last you and your cat for a few years. Therefore, it is a good value for money fun toy.
